Our Vertical Turning CNC lathes offer manufacturers big turning capacity in a compact design. See our complete line-up of Vertical Turning Centers that combine cutting-edge design, high production, and unrivaled rigidity.
Vertical turning lathes (VTL) are machines that have a fixed spindle orientation in the vertical plane. The workpiece then spins and moves up and down to align with the cutting head. The workpiece is supported by the rotating table. The x-axis is driven by a precision ram, which delivers the cutter to the desired location. This machining method is ideal for pieces that only need to shape one side of a part. While they are not suitable for high-volume runs, they excel at heavy cuts on medium and large parts.
When machining, heavy workpieces are easily set up and held in place. Gravity cooperates with the machine to keep the part in place, and clamping is minimal in comparison to other processes. These machines are capable of doing so while taking up less space than a comparable horizontal lathe.
